Sisyphus
The Sisyphus Kinetic Table was created as a result of the desire to combine art, technology, and design into one aesthetically and functionally perfect device. Its creator, Bruce Shapiro, has devoted 25 years to the study of motion control for artistic expression, and his kinetic masterpieces are becoming exhibits in museums around the world. Sisyphus is the crowning achievement of his craftsmanship, creating a unique meditative atmosphere not only in a museum, hotel, or office but also in the comfort of your home.
Sisyphus has several configurations, which differ in size and materials but have a common principle of operation. The basis of the magic of the kinetic table is the twin-engine robot Sisbot. It controls a magnet that pulls a metal ball along a certain trajectory. The robotic mechanism with the magnet is hidden from view under the surface of the table. But you can see the thin layer of sand on which the metal ball rolls and draws certain images in the sand as it moves. The ball and sand are covered with durable tempered glass, providing reliable protection for the mechanism.
There are no controls on the body of the table, but you can select a track for the ball in a web browser or mobile app via a Wi-Fi connection. You can also add new tracks to the standard playlist, which can be found online or even created by yourself using special apps.
